Data source and accuracy

The underlying data displayed on taxdollardata.org is derived from USASpending.gov. We do our best to process that data faithfully, but we make no representations or warranties — express or implied — about the completeness, accuracy, reliability, suitability, or availability of any information, analysis, or related graphics.

Source records may contain errors, be incomplete, be reported late, or be restated by the issuing agency after publication. Where the source corrects a record, TaxDollarData will follow on the next refresh — but there may be a lag. Always verify any figure against the original source before acting on it.

How we process this data: We ingest USASpending.gov contract and grant award data, normalize recipient names via the SAM.gov unique entity identifier, and roll up obligations by agency, recipient, NAICS, and ZIP. Every page links the original award-ID back to USASpending.

Refresh cadence: Refreshed monthly, within roughly 15 days of each Treasury DATA Act submission cycle.

Known limitations of this source: Obligations are not outlays — an obligated contract may not yet be paid, and some agencies book multiyear ceilings as single obligations, inflating headline totals. Classified and certain intelligence-community spending are excluded from USASpending by statute.
